On Monday, April 27th, the Western Illinois Singers under the direction of Dr. James Stegall will be working with our Day 1 choir classes! We will spend the class watching them perform for us, and performing for them! If Day 2 choir students have an off block or study hall during block 1, 2, or 3, I encourage them to spend that block with us :)
Women's Ensemble, Topaz, & CR5 have begun the Songs You'll Never Sing project! I encourage you to ask your students about the process, and hope you will attend their final performance! Performances will take place the week of May 11th and will be finalized this next week.
Earlier this month, Dawn Lennore Sonntag, a prominent 20th century choral composer found Topaz's performance of her piece "Evening Song" on our YouTube page. She was so delighted with their performance she found my contact information and asked me if she could work with Topaz in the fall on a new piece she has written. We hope to take advantage of this rare opportunity (it will take some fundraising), and there will be more details to come. Bravo to Topaz for performing her piece beautifully!
Thursday, April 30:
CR5 will be performing at the Erie Community Center Senior Lunch for the last time this semester. We typically leave around noon or 12:20, and arrive late to Block 8. As soon as I hear from their coordinator they will have a more specific timeline!
Monday, May 4:
Our POPS Concert is this evening! A few reminders...
All choir students should dress up the day of the concert. We do this for the same reason Athletics do, to show that they are participating in an event that evening. Please note if your child does not dress up, 5 points will be deducted from their grade.
The call time for the concert is 5:00 PM. All students should be in the choir room signed in and completely dressed at that time. Any student not signed in by 5:00 will be considered tardy.
The concert is free, and begins at 7, and doors will open for guests between 6:30 and 6:45. Please invite your friends and family!
Just to reiterate what is written on the syllabus... concerts serve as our assessments. This is an academic class and all concerts are required. Students are not graded on the quality of the performance, but rather their concert attire, if they are on time, and their behavior during the concert. Please check the acceptable excuses on the syllabus, and if you have any questions, send me an email!
Tuesday, May 5:
There will be a mandatory meeting for all members of current CR5 and members and parents of 2015-16 CR5 this evening! Students should arrive at 5:00, and parents should arrive at 6:00. Current members of CR5 will be finished at 6pm (unless they are also in CR5 next year). Dinner will be provided for students :) Our students will be getting to know each other, receiving their summer music, discussing Choir Leadership Council, and working with the current CR5 to understand expectations and ask questions. When parents arrive, we will talk about details such as dresses & tuxes, our summer retreat, Festival Disney, and Fundraising.
Academic Awards are tonight at 7PM! Students will receive an invitation from the school if they are receiving an award, so make sure you attend if you receive that invite! Each class at EHS for this year gives out awards, and mine will be for each choir class and Music Technology.

The second annual Senior's Last Song recitals will be tonight at 6:00 pm! We are so excited to being showcasing the individual talent the choral program has at EHS. Any senior in choir may perform a solo, duet, or choral piece as long as it has my approval! :)
